- The Federalists named themselves to avoid being called centralizers.
- Federalists were generally better off, many being well to do individuals, professionals, active in commercial affairs, and those alarmed by the changes after the Revolution.
- The Federalists were interested in an orderly and efficient government.
- Due to their powerful positions, they were less worried about protecting their individual choice.
Federalist Papers
- In response to the Anti-Federalists, and to sway the public, the Federalist Papers were written.
- Written under the name "Publius" actual authors were Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.
- These papers were aimed at trying to influence public opinion in favor of the Constitution.
- Opened the public up to the idea, and had an effect on the public.
- Most politicians had already made up their mind.
- Had an effect because they wanted to be liked by the public.
